Some NHL players come to mind... making me think whatever happened to...???

Ziggy Palffy: Last NHL Season with the Pens in 2006; Plays with the Slovak National team, but otherwise retired.

Anson Carter: Last NHL season with the Hurricanes in 2007, retired. Runs the record label Big Up Entertainment in Atlanta.

Paul Kariya: Last NHL season was 2010 with the Blues, retired in 2011 due to concussion symptoms.

Dan Blackburn: Retired 2005 with the Rangers after suffering nerve injury to his shoulder that led him to play net with 2 blockers. He now manages the Goaltender Development Institute.

Jim Carey: Retired in 1999 with the Blues. Now CEO of OptiMED.

Roman Cechmanek: Last played with the Kings in the NHL 2004. Officially retired in 2009.

Derek Plante: Retired in 2001 from the Flyers. Currently is the asst mens hockey coach at UMD.

Manny Fernandez: Last played with the Bruins in 2009 but not officially retired.

Felix Potvin: Last played with the Bruins in 2004, not officially retired. A nice article about him and what he's doing now below. I always thought he had a huge ego, but seems to be a down to earth guy who left the game his own way...and in the right way!

I saw Jim Carey play in his two games in Cincinnati in the IHL. Then he went out with the concussion and never returned.
